BRITs recently faced criticism due to the fact that the category “Artist of the Year in the UK” consists of all male artists, and Central Cee, Fred … again, George Ezra, Stormzy and Harry Styles were shortlisted. This happened after the awards reduced the categories of British women and British men in favor of gender-neutral prizes in 2022.
In addition, some artists have encountered a lack of representation of R&B in the Pop/R&B category.
Asked about the Male Artist of the Year category, Sam Smith, who is not binary and has called for the introduction of gender-neutral categories in 2021, said it was “shameful” to see only male nominees, adding in The Sunday Times. : “The case is moving forward, but it is obvious that this is not all. After seeing this list [of the best artists], we still have a long way to go.”
Stormzy’s next UK show will take place in August, where he will headline All Points East for the first time, hosting a day of music called “This Is What We Mean Day” based on his new album.
