It’s no secret that superhero movies are everywhere. And as the DCEU undergoes drastic changes, there are several upcoming projects beyond that timeline. Chief among them is Todd Phillips’ “Joker” and its upcoming sequel Folie à Deux. Not much is known about its content (although fans are delighted), but Lady Gaga has returned to the big screen, playing the fan-favorite character Harley Quinn. And it looks like Mother Monster is really “working” on an upcoming sequel in which she will play alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
The first Joker movie was a grueling story telling how Arthur Fleck plunged into madness and murder, and Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Actor category of the Awards season and received an Oscar. But the sequel to Joker: Folie à Deux is reportedly going to be a musical, which sounds like a departure. Lady Gaga hasn’t been particularly active on social media, but an anonymous insider told ET that it’s because she’s completely immersed in filming “Joker 2.” As they put it,
Gaga is laying low because she’s so focused on her work. She’s completely immersed in the Joker sequel, and a lot of her energy goes into it. She’s completely in the zone and wants to kill him.
Sounds right. There are only a few films on Lady Gaga’s resume, but she is known for going to great lengths to turn into someone else. Given how much prestige already surrounds the burgeoning Joker franchise (and how beloved Harley is), she’s probably feeling the pressure. And this requires preparation.
While Lady Gaga’s commitment to her roles in projects like House of Gucci has been ridiculed and turned into memes on the internet, she will apparently be in good company for Joker 2. Joaquin Phoenix is also a methodical actor offering an exciting and memorable game. in the role of Arthur Fleck in the original film. So having these two actors working so identically can be truly electric on screen.
Todd Phillips’ Joker was a bold take on its main character and included an original story largely independent of DC comics. And so it should be interesting to see what his approach to Dr. Harleen Quinzel will be, especially with regard to her affair with Mr. J. Addom is in musical numbers, and it seems that anything can happen. While Lady Gaga has kept quiet about Joker 2, she confirmed her role via Instagram a few months ago. Check it out below:

Principal photography for Joker: Folie à Deux unexpectedly began shortly before the holidays, when Todd Phillips shared a photo of the first day on December 10. Lady Gaga wasn’t expected to start her role until the New Year, so she apparently had to be deep into filming at that point. And so it makes sense that she is “hiding,” as this anonymous insider put it. I have to wonder how Arkham Asylum treats her.
“Joker: Folie à Deux” is currently expected to be released in theaters on October 4, 2024. In the meantime, check out the movie’s release dates in 2023 to plan your next movie.
