Manchester United loanee Ethan Laird was injured as he had to come off during Queens Park Rangers’ draw at home with Swansea City.
The marauding right-back suffered a hamstring injury, which forced him to abandon the game in the first half.
Manager Neil Critchley really didn’t want to lose him, and he told West London Sport:
“Ethan left with a hamstring injury, which was obviously serious enough that he had to leave, and we really missed him because he was really good for us.”
Laird has suffered a number of injuries throughout his young career, for example, last season he spent a torrid time on loan at Bournemouth.
He, as well as the coaching staff of United and QPR, will hope that the hamstring problem does not turn out to be too serious.
The 21-year—old is a talented young player endowed with extraordinary speed and remarkable attacking instincts.
This season, he started 23 games in the Championship and showed himself so well that there was even talk that Eric ten Hag might recall him to the Manchester United first team.
Although this was unlikely due to the fact that the Dutchman preferred young players to continue their good form on loan, it speaks volumes about how highly Laird is valued.
He has become a key player in QPR’s season and, although they are currently only 13th in the table, they are only four points away from the play-offs in the middle of the season.
Critchley hopes Laird will return as soon as possible to help in a very competitive championship season.
After that, Laird may well be in the main team of Manchester United.
