Charlotte Richie said she was “deeply disappointed” with her character Kate in the finale of the fourth season of the series “You”.

In the final episode, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) reveals his true identity and his serial killer ways to Kate. However, she decides to accept him and even help cover her tracks by erasing the evidence linking him to the death of Rhys (Ed Speleers).

After she inherits her father Tom Lockwood’s (Greg Kinnear) fortune, Kate and Joe move to New York to start a new life together as a couple.

Speaking to NME, Richie said she was “deeply disappointed in Kate” when she first read the script for the season finale. “At the beginning [of the season] it was so clear that she had to be as cold and nasty as possible,” the actor said. “Because almost cartoon anger is her armor.

“So, I have to say that she let me down. It was fun playing a character who so openly hates this terrible person!”

“I do not know what will happen next, and whether anything will happen next - maybe they will just go into the sunset,” Richie added.

When asked if she would like to return for more episodes, she replied: “Of course, because I understand the character more than ever after [playing her] in 10 episodes. And I like those moments of humor that we’re starting to see between Kate and Joe.

“That would be really cool, but who knows—I might die in the opening credits of [season five]!”

In a four-star review of the fourth season, NME wrote: “Yes, it’s all very silly, but also surprisingly exciting and consistently witty. By the end of episode five, you’ll be craving the second half of the season more than you might admit.”
