Nævis, an artificial intelligence system from the history of aespa, will make its debut as an “AI artist” at the band’s upcoming concert in virtual reality (VR).
In a recent interview with Maeil Business Newspaper, SM Entertainment CEO Lee Seong-soo talked about the label’s plans to turn Nevis into an “artificial intelligence artist.” Previously, Nævis was presented as an artificial intelligence system, which in the history of the female group connects aespa with their virtual counterparts, or “æ”. It was previously believed that she sacrificed herself to help aespa, after the events that occurred in the music video and lyrics of “Savage”.
Now it looks like Nevis will make his musical debut during the aespa VR concert at this year’s South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival, a 20-minute experience set in Kwangya, an endless, lawless virtual space that is represented by SM Entertainment and, in particular, Espa Knowledge.
“Nevis, who has only appeared as computer graphics in aespa music videos so far, plans to show himself as an AI artist,” Lee said of Nevis’ upcoming debut, translated by Koreaboo. “She will be an artist born by mobilizing the skills of natural movements, a new voice and communication in real time.” The executive director added that Nevis’ voice will be created using samples from twelve different voice actors.
The world premiere of the aespa VR concert will take place at SXSW, which will be held from March 10 to 19. The specific date of the aespa concert has not yet been confirmed. aespa will hold their first headlining concerts before SXSW. Their “SYNK: HYPERLINE” concerts will take place at the Jamsil Arena in Seoul, South Korea, on February 25 and 26. The band’s second night at the arena will be broadcast live to a worldwide audience via the Beyond LIVE streaming service.
