A “Separate” MechWarrior Game Is in Development

Piranha Games president Russ Bullock has confirmed that the studio has “another MechWarrior game in development” and says fans can expect a full announcement later this year.

Bullock shared this news during an appearance on the NoGutsNoGalaxy podcast yesterday (January 11), where he also briefly outlined the direction in which the long-running series will develop.

“Another MechWarrior game [in] Piranha is in development,” said Bullock, who explained that “this is not MechWarrior Online 2 — this is not the successor to MechWarrior Online, this is not an online PvP [game].”

Bullock suggested that fans think it’s “more like MechWarrior 5, but as a separate [title],” and shared that the upcoming game is “more like a single-player game and co-op.”

Although Bullock did not share too much information about the next Piranha Games game, he added that it will be launched on PCs and consoles, and more details will appear this year.

“It will be announced later,” Bullock said. “If I had an assumption that it could even be… who knows, somewhere in 2021 it will be announced - maybe even in the fall.”

The last game in the series was MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, released in 2019 — 15 years after the release of MechWarrior 4: Vengeance 2004. Initially, 5 was launched as an exclusive for the Epic Games Store on PC, but it soon hit Steam and other platforms.

Last year, MechWarrior 5 and its expansion Heroes of the Inner Sphere were released on PlayStation 5, making it the first MechWarrior game in 20 years to appear on a Sony console.

In addition to the cross-play, the PS5 version also brought a new story, improved AI, and more than 30 new or improved features.

As for other gaming news, Marvel Snap players have criticized the increasingly expensive microtransactions of the card game. The latest set of the game, designed for new players, costs 89.99 pounds.
